Francisco Enrique González-Díaz’s practice focuses on European and Spanish competition law, including mergers and acquisitions, restrictive practices, abuse of dominance and state aid.
Prior to Cleary, Francisco held a number of positions within European institutions. Between 1998 and 2003, he headed one of the enforcement units of the European Commission’s Merger Task Force and led the European Commission in its review of a number of large and complex cases in a wide array of market sectors. He also represented the European Commission in a number of important legislative projects relating to mergers and acquisitions and the application of Articles 81 and 82 EC.
He joined the firm in 2003 as a partner.
1996-1998: Clerk for Judge García Valdecasas at the European Court of First Instance (Luxembourg).
1990-1996: Member of the EC's Legal Service.
LL.M. (Harvard Law School); LL.M. (Université Libre de Bruxelles); Degree in Law (University of Granada)
He is a member of the Bar of Madrid and Brussels.
Publishes on EU law matters, particularly competition law. Former lecturer of Private International Law - University of Alicante (1985-89). Serves on advisory/editorial boards of several legal publications.
He is a native Spanish speaker, and is fluent in English and French.
