Career
Guy is a specialist regulatory, professional discipline, and fitness to practise barrister. Guy has practised in the area for 17 years, advising and acting for both regulators and individuals. Guy is recognised for his experience of complex disciplinary cases before a variety of healthcare, accountancy, legal and engineering regulators.
Healthcare regulators he appears before include the GMC, GDC, HCPC, GPhC and GOC. Guy is instructed to represent barristers and solicitors before the BSB and SDT, and advises solicitors on compliance with the SRA’s regulatory requirements.
Guy has particular expertise in defending accountants in disciplinary proceedings before regulators such as the ACCA, ICAEW and CIMA.
Guy is regularly instructed in appeals before the High Court and the Court of Appeal, including to provide a ‘second opinion’. A number of the appeals he has appeared in are the leading authorities in that area.
Guy regularly defends university students accused of academic and non-academic misconduct; advises on academic appeals; and advises and represents families challenging suspensions and exclusions by private and state schools.
Guy has significant experience appearing before Performers List Decisions Panels, along with subsequent appeals to the First-Tier Tribunal.
Guy is regarded for his expertise in providing governance advice to statutory and non-statutory bodies, including drafting policies, Codes of Conduct, and rules and procedures. These bodies include regulators, membership organisations, and schools.
