Career
I have specialised in claimant Personal Injury and Medical Negligence litigation for more than 25 years, particularly in birth injury and neonatal claims.
My main expertise is in Cerebral and Erb’s palsy claims and neonatal claims including hypoglycaemia; hyperbilirubinaemia; kernicterus and retinopathy of prematurity cases.
I have run several high-profile multiparty actions, including representing families whose cases were considered in the Health Care Commission’s 2006 report into maternal deaths at Northwick Park Hospital, representing at inquest and in civil claims families affected by the outbreak of endocarditis at the Trent Cardiac Centre in 2009, and representing families of residents who died at the Orchid View Care Home and contributing to the parliamentary select committee investigating poor quality of care provided in care homes.
I have a sports injury practice advising elite athletes on claims arising from substandard treatment by medical staff. I am a panel member for the Rugby Players Association. I recently settled a large claim for a former Premiership player whose career was ended through a concussion injury and a claim for a player who had a heart attack on the pitch.
I regularly comment on TV and radio where appropriate and lecture to the legal and medical profession. I run an annual programme of training courses on patient safety and clinical negligence public affairs matters. I also sit on the editorial board of the Journal of Personal Injury Law.
