Career
José Estandía has more than 25 years’ experience leading M&A and project finance transactions in Mexico’s energy sector, including clients focused on power, renewable energy, natural gas, and oil terminals, among other considerations. He has extensive experience with renewable projects, representing participants in the negotiation and implementation of power purchase agreements (PPAs); engineering, procurement and construction agreements (EPCs); and operation and maintenance agreements (O&Ms). José’s practice includes counseling oil companies in connection with the commercialization of gasoline and diesel in Mexico.
During the last few years, José has assisted clients in the development, financing, and operation of energy projects regulated either by the legal framework before (proyectos legados) or after the 2013 Energy Reform.
José assists his clients with the scope of the latest regulatory instruments, policies, grid fees and criteria imposed upon the electricity industry by the Ministry of Energy (SENER), the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) and the National Energy Control Center (CENACE). In addition, José advises companies in the electricity industry regarding the local and international protection and defense of their rights related to the implementation of these new instruments, as well as those arising from the amendment to the Mexican Electrical Industry Law.
