Margarita is the Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Romero Corral Abogados. She has extensive experience in managing the trademark portfolios of both local and international clients in Ecuador. In addition to all aspect of trademark law, Margarita also provides advice on: regulatory issues, both related to food and medicines and related to technical standards governed by Ecuador's National Standards Body (INEN); consumer protection issues; advertising law; franchising agreements and other agreements related to the commercialization of IP. She has a special interest and expertise in IP issues related to e-commerce.
Career
Before founding Romero Corral Abogados with Alfredo Corral, she was the Managing Partner and Co-Founder of MARKLAW, the predecessor of Romerro Corral Abogados, for 15 years. Prior to that she was an Associate in the IP Department of a top tier full service firm in Ecuador.
INTA invited Margarita Romero to join as Co-chair of the Global Advisory Council for Latin America and the Caribbean (GAC) for the period 2022-2023. She is also member of INTA’s Professional Development Committee for the same period.
Margarita Romero is the secretary of the ASIPI Patent Committee for the period 2022-2023, and she works very hard to promote new projects that help people to know the real importance of intellectual property.
In December 2022, Margarita Romero attended ASIPI Meeting and she was a panelist in the Asipi Green Patent Contest which gives special recognition to inventions that help preserve the environment.
Margarita Romero was a panelist in the Asipi – Inta Moot Court on Intellectual Property Law 2022 (Second edition). The Court of Justice of the Andean Community - TJCA, the Interamerican Association of Intellectual Property - ASIPI, and the International Trademark Association - INTA, convinced of the need to encourage the study and research of intellectual property law, have agreed to develop a Moot Court aimed at law students or professionals recently graduated from such career.
Margarita Romero has participated in “Violeta Women in Business”, in the cities of Quito and Guayaquil in July. Violeta Magazine and Great Place to Work Ecuador presented Violeta Summit, a unique event that celebrated the recognition of good gender equality practices and the best places to work for women in Ecuador.
Professional Memberships
Margarita attends a number of national, regional and international conferences on IP Law, e-commerce and corporate law and is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), AIPPI, IAPP, INTERTY, ECTA, and Secretary of the National Group of Inter-American Association of Industrial Property (ASIPI).
