Marissa has a wide range of experience in criminal defense, fiduciary litigation and regulatory law related to social media use. That includes risk mitigation for brands, agencies, businesses, firms, endorsers, advertisers, and individuals that are involved in social media advertising, endorsements and influencer agreements. She is particularly well-versed in representing clients charged with digital-related crimes and cases where cell phone data is used as evidence. She has written extensively on the topic of the U.S. Justice Department’s scrutiny of pandemic relief programs and has handled litigation and appeals involving the Paycheck Protection Program. She has also represented medical professionals against charges of prescription fraud and clients in domestic violence litigation.
She is active in the New Jersey Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Women of White Collar Defense Association. She has contributed to New Jersey Supreme Court and Supreme Court of the United States amicus briefs involving a wide array of issues.
Regulatory Compliance and Commercial Litigation
Marissa works proactively with businesses to design compliance assurance and ethics programs designed to reduce the likelihood of violations that can lead to investigations and regulatory action. Companies that have identified or been informed of potential internal wrongdoing, or are under intense government scrutiny, rely on Marissa to conduct thorough internal investigations to help determine their potential risk and respond appropriately.
Marissa also provides legal representation that helps companies and individuals resolve business disputes, fiercely protecting their interests in commercial litigation involving breach of contract and other issues. She has represented a large car company, investors in a real estate investment firm and a church pastor and his congregation in a leadership dispute.
In addition, she counsels clients on compliance with state and federal health care and occupational health and safety laws and regulations and represents medical professionals in cases involving malpractice and Medicare and Medicaid fraud.
Social Media Counsel
Marissa helps clients avoid the legal and regulatory pitfalls related to social media use. That includes risk mitigation for brands, agencies, businesses, firms and individuals that are involved in social media advertising, endorsements and influencer agreements. Marissa provides guidance on:

She is well-versed in Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) regulatory requirements and enforcement tools, and counsels clients facing criminal or civil liability or investigations related to social media. She can also help clients prepare manuals on proper and improper social media use for employees.
Career
Prior to joining Fox, Marissa was an attorney at an East Coast-based law firm. After law school, Marissa was a law clerk to the Honorable Rachelle Lea Harz at the New Jersey Superior Court, Civil Division.
During law school, Marissa was a legal intern at a local New Jersey firm and a research assistant to Professor Vera Bergelson. She was also a judicial intern to the Honorable Katharine Hayden of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, a research assistant to Professor Gary Francione and a legal intern at the Office of Prosecutor for the Central Municipal Court of Bergen County. Additionally, she was a law clerk at a local New Jersey firm.
