Career
Matthew was called to the Bar in 2006 and has practised in crime, employment, personal injury, professional disciplinary and regulatory law and so has a wealth of experience across a range of sectors, courts and tribunals.
Over the last decade Matthew has specialised in fitness to practise, disciplinary and regulatory matters and he acts for both regulators and regulated professionals. Matthew has considerable experience of cases involving allegations of dishonesty, fraud, sexual misconduct and complex clinical and technical matters.
Matthew regularly acts in matters related to the healthcare sector and has acted in proceedings brought by the GMC, GDC, HCPC, GPhC, GOC, GCC, SWE, NMC, GOsC and NHS England. Matthew also has an established, predominantly defence, practice in accountancy regulation in which he has represented clients ranging from the Responsible Individual in the audit of a Championship football club to sole practitioner accountants facing disciplinary action. Matthew has acted in proceedings brought by ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA, CIPFA, IFA, AIA, AAT, CIOT.
Matthew sits as a legal advisor to the GDC and has previously done so at the TRA.
