Career
Mr. Olaya is the leader of the M&A practice at Estudio Muñiz. According to Transactional Track Record (TTR), a prestigious platform that track deals in Latin America, Estudio Muñiz is the leader in Peru, as legal advisor, by number or value of transactions (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020).
Mr. Olaya is regularly ranked in the first position in Peru as dealmaker by TTR.
He has been involved in the most significant transactions closed in Peru. For instance, the purchase by Arca Continental of a participating interest in Corporación Lindley (US$ 760 million); the sale of Inkafarma, one of the largest drugstores in Peru, to Interbank (US$ 350 million); the sale of Wong supermarket chain to the Chilean Cencosud (US$ 500 million); the sale of HSBC bank in Peru to Colombia’s Gilinski group (US$ 400 million), among others in several sectors (fisheries, retail, construction, technology,
food, etc.)
Mauricio Olaya has been director of various important companies over the last few years, including Pesquera Diamante, one of the three largest fishing Peruvian companies (10 years). Likewise, he has been a corporate advisor to the vast majority of companies in the fishing sector in Peru, including the National Fisheries Society, and has led more than 90 percent of the M&A transactions carried out in the fishing sector during the last 25 years.
External member of the risks committee of Pesquera Exalmar, since 2021 (the fourth largest fishing company in Peru).
He is member of the board of directors of Sky Airlines, since 2021; Industrias del Envase, since 2010 (the largest producer of packaging in Peru), Machu Picchu Foods, since 2010 (the leader manufacturer of chocolates), Oben Holding Group, since 2017 (the largest producer of films for the packaging industry); Agroindustrial Paramonga, since 2019 (leader in the sugar industry); and Terminal Portuario Paracas, since 2019 (a multipurpose port located in Southern Peru).
Furthermore, Mr. Olaya was a member of the board of directors of Delosi (2005-2020), the largest franchisor in Peru (KFC, Pizza Hut,
Burger King, Starbucks). Currently he is member of the audit and risks committee. He has been a member of the board of directors of Avianca (2010-2020).
A well-known promoter in Peru of issues linked to compliance, corporate governance, triple impact business, b corps and ESG indicators, through publications in the most important outlets regarding these subjects (Procapitales, Stakeholders, Semana Economía, among others). He is a regular speaker in events and conferences.
Contributor at El Comercio and Gestión, the most important newspapers in Peru, and Semana Económica, the most influential magazine focused on economic and business issues.
