Nick has enormous experience in complex catastrophic injury claims, mainly brain and spinal injury. He has secured many multimillion pound settlements for his clients.
His clients include children and protected parties (who lack mental capacity). Nick acted in the important and much-quoted case of Masterman-Lister v Brutton & Co., which formulated the test for mental capacity. In many cases liability is a hard-fought issue. Compensation secured for children include £2 million for brain injury (meningitis), US$4.5 million (bronchiolitis) and for spinal cord injury £12.5 million (spinal tumour). Other brain injury damages include £5 million (encephalitis) and £4 million (locked-in syndrome).
Career
Nick qualified in 1979 with David Lee & Co, before joining Stewarts in 1999.

Publications
Nick was the author of the chapter on Funding in Lewis and Buchan: Clinical Negligence A Practical Guide (2012). He has delivered a talk to the Lord Chancellor’s Visitors (psychiatrist experts in the Court of Protection). He has appeared in two training videos for the College of Law.
