Nina Tavakoli

Practice Areas

Nina specialises in international and domestic criminal law and inquiries. She has significant experience in genocide and war crimes prosecutions.

She is currently instructed as part of the defence team representing Hashim Thaçi, former president of Kosovo, before the Kosovo Specialist

Chambers in The Hague. She has previously acted in cases before the International Criminal Court, the Special Court for Sierra Leone (Charles

Taylor case) and the UN International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. She is a highly experienced investigator of international crimes, particularly

sexual violence and torture and has extensive experience working with survivors of sexual violence, especially men. Nina provides specialist advice

to governments and NGOs on various areas including gender, rule of law and transitional justice.

Career

Admitted as a Solicitor (2003). Called to Bar (2014). Member of UK government’s team of independent experts on preventing sexual violence in

conflict (2012) and justice (2014); JRR-UN Women’s sexual and gender based violence expert roster (2018). LLM Public International Law –

LSE (2006).
