Practice Areas
Peter Jeffreys is a partner in our charity legacy team. He qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and joined Wilsons as a partner in 2004. Peter specialises in charity legacy administration and the resolution of problem estates for charities. He also acts for charities in Court of Protection cases. Peter has a special interest in dealing with cases of probate fraud for charities.
Peter's background in private client work means he is uniquely well placed to advise charities and individuals on complex and problematic will cases. His combination of practical experience, and a sensitive and diplomatic approach, is much in demand. Peter is a member of STEP and the Charity Law Association, and is a speaker at our annual Charity Legacy Officers' Seminars and Armed Forces Charities' Seminars.
Recent highlights:
- Taking over the administration of an estate following the closure of the executor's firm, and claiming the money due to the estate for the charitable beneficiaries;
- Acting for charitable beneficiaries of a trust which includes a substantial area of development land in the south of England;
- Successfully defending a variety of claims against estates on behalf of a number of national charities;
- Obtaining full repayment for three charities of money which had accidentally been paid to the wrong person over more than 10 years.
Peter chairs and speaks at our hugely successful seminar for charity legacy officers, which takes place in London annually in March, and was also a popular speaker at the firm's seminar for military charities in London.
