Randy Schwartz is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault’s National Tax Group based in Toronto and head of the firm’s indirect tax practice. His practice is focused on indirect taxes, which include goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax, provincial sales taxes, property transfer taxes, fuel taxes, excise taxes and duties. Randy advises clients with respect to indirect tax planning, transaction advice and negotiation, entering the Canadian market, start-ups and tax dispute resolution. He has extensive experience in cross-border transactions and in the energy, automotive, real estate, retail, manufacturing, telecommunication and information technology industries.
As the legislative framework governing the indirect tax landscape in Canada evolves, Randy leverages his knowledge of this space to help clients identify and capitalize on business opportunities and avoid costly pitfalls. He is recognized as a problem solver and advocate that clients can depend on to navigate disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial tax authorities.
