Career
Roy founded Cohen Seglias in 1988 and has overseen its growth from a three-attorney construction firm to a firm with more than 80 attorneys offering a wide range of legal services. Serving as the firm’s President and chair of the Construction Group, he has a nationwide construction practice and counsels more than 300 clients in the industry, including construction managers, general contractors, municipal authorities, private developers, major trade contractors, architects, engineers, and sureties. Roy has developed a particularly strong presence in the electrical construction community and represents over 200 electrical contractors. His practice also includes the representation of developers and other parties in litigation involving land development projects.
A dedicated advocate for his clients, Roy excels in handling complex construction litigation cases involving multiple parties and jurisdictions. During the course of his career he has handled more than 1,000 mediations, arbitrations, and litigations at both the state and federal levels in a variety of jurisdictions across the country. He has twice argued before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and he has also argued several cases on the appellate level in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Roy has been admitted pro hac vice in more than 20 states.
In addition to his litigation practice, Roy counsels construction clients on day-to-day business issues, including business succession planning and generational planning. This includes intergenerational transfers as well as sales to third parties. He also advises clients on corporate planning issues and mergers and acquisitions.
Roy is a frequent speaker on construction litigation matters and regularly provides educational seminars to trade organizations, clients, and peer groups across the country.
