Stefan is a Partner in the Project and Structured Finance Group.
Stefan regularly advises banks and other financial institutions, institutional investors, sponsors and developers on project financings of offshore and onshore wind farms, solar parks and other energy and infrastructure projects in Germany as well as in other European and non-European jurisdictions.
Career
Stefan is recognised as an expert energy and project finance lawyer in Germany by legal directories Chambers Europe and IFLR 1000. In 2018, the former quoted a client as describing Stefan as “the first choice for project financing”. In 2021, Chambers called him a “very capable lawyer” and Clients find him to be "very precise in his analysis, calm and experienced." He has also been chosen to be the “Lawyer of the year” 2021 in Banking & Finance Law and in 2020 for Project Finance and Development Practice. He has been recognised as one of “The Best Lawyers in Germany 2023” in the fields of Banking Law, Project Finance and Development Practice, Banking and Finance Law and Corporate Law by Best Lawyers in cooperation with business magazine Handelsblatt.
Work Highlights
Advising Goldman Sachs as mandated lead arranger on the €400m financing of Energy Infrastructure Partners’ acquisition of a 49% share in the Wikinger offshore wind farm, Germany, from Iberdrola.
Advising ING Bank, UniCredit Bank AG and another German major bank on a KfW backed long-term financing of the waste-to-energy plant (Müllheizkraftwerk Wiesbaden) currently under construction in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Advising Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, Postbank Luxembourg and UniCredit AG as arrangers on a €92m refinancing for QSIL AG.
Advising DEG, KfW IPEX, KfW and FMO on the $167m financing of the Vientos Los Hércules onshore wind project majority owned by Total Eren in the southern Argentine province of Santa Cruz.
Advising Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale on the long-term financing of an import terminal for liquified gases to be constructed in Stade-Buetzfleth, Lower Saxony, Germany.
