Experience
Since being admitted to the Korean Bar in 2006, Sunghee has developed special expertise concerning regulatory compliance especially in connection with data protection and privacy matters. She has advised numerous businesses on a wide range of data protection issues, including cross-border data transfers, online behavioral advertising, big data systems and employee monitoring. Recently, she is also providing advices on issues related to Fintech and blockchain technology.
Sunghee also has extensive experience in IP matters, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and employee inventions, and has handled many high-profile court litigation cases and international arbitration cases.

Work Highlights
• Established Samsung electronic’s global data protection strategy and policy as head of the Global Data Protection Compliance Taskforce and advised the company on broad range of data protection issues raised at a global level (while working for Samsung Electronics)
• Advised leading Korean car manufacturers on response strategy for data protection compliance investigations conducted by the Korea Communications Commission (“KCC”), the regulator who were responsible for enforcing data protection regulations pertaining to personal data and location data and thereafter establishing overall data protection governance
• Advised a leading home appliance company regarding its overall data strategy to enable the use of personal information and enhance the efficiency of marketing
• Led GDPR and CCPA compliance projects for many Korean companies including entertainment company, bank, logistics companies, IT companies and pharmaceutical companies based in Korea, in cooperation with EU-based law firms
• Advising the largest financial group in Korea on issues related to data protection, data security, cloud computing, fintech, and blockchain technology
• Advising regulators such as the PIPC, the KCC, the MOIS, the Korean Internet and Security Agency, the Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service
• Led a compliance project for a leading Korean shipping firm
