Practice Areas
Tim’s practice includes all aspects of VAT, customs and excise duties including technical matters and investigations. He has huge experience in representing taxpayers in MTIC/Kittel type cases and also has had particular successes in Land and Property cases, most notably recently in Landlinx Estates Limited v. HMRC.
Tim also recently represented NHS South West London CCG v. HMRC in its successful appeal to recover VAT paid to outsourced health providers.
Career
Called to the Bar 2001 and joined Chambers in 2005.
Before joining Chambers, Tim spent 12 years in HM Customs & Excise (now HM Revenue and Customs), where he began his career at an international airport. He then moved on to a Local VAT Office and an excise team before joining the National Investigation Service (now Fraud Investigation Service), where he was a case officer for numerous serious offences including VAT, customs duty and excise duty frauds.
Tim then broadened his experience by joining the Indirect Tax team at Deloitte for four years, followed by the Tax Investigations team at PricewaterhouseCoopers for three years.
Tim has an honours degree in law from Nottingham Law School.

Personal
Tim is a keen motorcyclist and a former footballer. In 1982 he captained England Schools Under-18 football team and went on to have spells at Notts County FC and Mansfield Town FC.
