Angelo is an experienced trial attorney who has litigated matters before state and federal courts throughout the U.S. and before domestic and international arbitration panels.
In the financial services space, Angelo has represented clients in class actions, business-to-business disputes and individual litigations involving contractual breaches, fair lending, credit reporting, unfair and deceptive trade practices, fraudulent conveyances and information privacy and security issues.
In the higher education space, Angelo has handled some of the most high-profile litigations at Troutman, including: (i) defending numerous of universities in tuition refund class actions related to the transition from in-person teaching to remote teaching as a result of COVID-19; (ii) defending a university and its board of trustees in a lawsuit alleging breaches of fiduciary duty arising from a decision to change the university’s historic scholarship program; (iii) defending a university’s board of trustees in an Attorney General litigation asserting allegations of breach of fiduciary duty and corporate waste; (iv) defending a college in a wrongful death action involving allegations of hazing; (vi) defending a university and obtaining summary judgment dismissing a traumatic brain injury case seeking to recover $40 million; and (vii) representing numerous universities in litigations involving corporate governance and Title IX issues.
