Career
Carole Chouinard is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. She advises clients on the tax aspects of transactions, including share and asset sales of corporations and corporate reorganizations, the structuring and formation of corporations, trusts, partnerships and tax-exempt entities, and on cross-border tax issues. Her practice also includes tax planning for domestic and foreign corporations and individuals residing in and out of Canada. She has experience in structuring business ventures and transactions for both taxable and tax-exempt entities. Carole advises tax-exempt organizations, as well as donors, on matters pertaining to the structuring of donations, the options to meet their philanthropic goals and the tax implications of proposed arrangements and ventures in Canada and internationally. Carole worked for several years as a rulings officer with the CRA’s Income Tax Rulings and Interpretations Directorate and taught tax law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa. She has been recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and the International Tax Review: Women in Tax Leaders. Carole received the Best Lawyers 2022 Trusts and Estates "Lawyer of the Year" award in Ottawa and was similarly recognized in the field of Tax Law in 2023.
