About
Provided by David Caplan
Practice Areas
David’s practice encompasses commercial litigation, commercial arbitration, fraud, banking and energy, often in matters with an international element. David undertakes a broad range of commercial work and has extensive experience of working in various forums, including the High Court (both led and unled), the Court of Appeal (again, both led and unled), the Supreme Court, the Privy Council, and arbitrations under various institutional rules. He has also been called to the BVI bar and has experience of working in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. In the recent past, David has worked on, amongst other things: the mammoth Magomedov litigation, one of the largest conspiracy cases ever to come before the English courts, the extensive Koza litigation, which has already generated one Supreme Court judgment, three substantive Court of Appeal judgments and numerous first instance judgments, and which raises complex and sensitive issues of private international law; a major LCIA arbitration in which David acted as sole counsel and obtained for his client an award of over £30m; related proceedings in the Commercial Court, the Isle of Man and Spain; and a claim relating to the alleged misappropriation of the ownership of a leading Bulgarian telecommunications business. David has also acted as an expert on English law in foreign proceedings.
