Career
Mr. Jeong Yeol Choe is a partner at Yulchon. Mr. Choe directs overall patent cases and represents clients for civil, administrative and criminal cases relating to patents as well as general litigations. Before joining Yulchon, Mr. Choe served as a judge for 21 years at the Patent Court of Korea and at several district courts, including the district courts of Seoul, Incheon, and Kunsan. During his three year tenure as a judge at the Korean Patent Court, he gained extensive experience in a wide range of intellectual property cases. Mr. Choe authored the trademark section of the Patent Trial Practice Guidelines and co-authored books, such as “New Principles of Patent Law” and “Entertainment Law.” He has also published a large number of articles covering areas of IP, information technology, and entertainment. Mr. Choe also served as a lecturer at various institutions, including the Judicial Research and Training Institute, where he gave lectures on a wide range of intellectual property related topics to trainees, attorneys, and judges. In addition, Mr. Choe was a member of the board of bar examiners for the Korean Patent Bar and an expert appraiser at the Korean Copyright Commission. Mr. Choe was the president of the Korean Intellectual Property Lawyers’ Association (KIPLA) which was founded in 2014. Mr. Choe is also an active arbitrator at the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board. Mr. Choe is a graduate of Seoul National University and attended George Washington Law School as a visiting scholar. Having written several dissertations on copyright and patent law, Mr. Choe brings invaluable legal knowledge and experience to Yulchon LLC.
