Practice Areas
Employment and Discrimination: Jonathan acts for Claimants and Respondents across a broad spectrum of employment disputes. Recent highlights include acting unled against a KC for a Respondent GP practice in a complex disability discrimination claim, acting for the Respondents in two gig economy group worker status claims (led by Jason Galbraith-Marten KC) and successfully defending a race discrimination claim brought against a Cambridge University College. Recent appellate cases include: Riley v Direct Line Insurance Group PLC [2023] IRLR 952, EAT, Vashishtha v NHS England and ors [2023] EAT 44, and De Lacey v Wechseln Ltd [2021] IRLR 547, EAT.
Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence: Jonathan is often instructed to act for Claimants in multi-track cases. He was instructed as junior Counsel for firefighters injured in the Grenfell Tower disaster. Recent cases include acting as junior Counsel in a Fatal Accident Act claim brought by the dependants of a police officer killed on active service and securing a favourable settlement in a case where infertility resulted from negligently performed gynaecological surgery.
Career
Called in 2017. Educated at Jesus College, University of Cambridge: BA in History (First Class), MPhil in Historical Studies (Distinction), PhD in Politics and International Studies.
Before coming to the Bar Jonathan had previous careers in academia and as an international middle distance runner.
