A former federal prosecutor and current chair of the firm’s Compliance & Government Investigations Practice Group, Lisa Rivera’s practice focuses on advising healthcare providers, government contractors and other clients subject to government regulation on matters related to civil and criminal fraud and abuse matters, as well leading government investigations and enforcement. Lisa has significant experience handling matters arising under the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark law, and various other federal and state healthcare statutes and federal regulations, and counsels clients on fraud and abuse matters, sensitive internal investigations and complex compliance issues.

Career

Joined Bass, Berry & Sims in 2014. Lisa was an Assistant U.S. Attorney with the Department of Justice for 14 years, in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee and in Puerto Rico, prosecuting white collar financial crimes, and handling civil enforcement actions. In addition to her career with DOJ, Lisa was also a staff attorney with the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, a state prosecutor in Florida, and had a commercial litigation defense practice in Texas, and has been an adjunct professor at Belmont Law School in Health Care Fraud and Litigation.
