Career

Mr. Jardón practice is focused on structuring transnational mechanisms for the protection of foreign investment in Mexico and designing alternatives directed to the early solution of complex regulatory and contractual disputes. Luis frequently acts as counsel in crisis management situations and in the development of multi-tiered strategies by which national remedies are combined with recourse to international arbitration.

Luis is an active member of our pro-bono practice. Most notably, along with other Mexican practitioners, he was admitted to submit a writ of amicus curiae before the United States Supreme Court regarding the standards of application of public international in Mexico in Hernández v. Mesa.

Prior joining Creel, Luis worked on a global law firm in which he represented sovereign States in international arbitration before ICSID tribunals. Additionally, for several years and in different capacities he acted as international law counsel for the Government of Mexico. There, among other, he litigated the Radilla Pacheco and Cottonfields landmark cases before Inter-American Court of Human Rights. In addition, he intervened in the negotiation and legal review of treaties and international agreements entered into by Mexico.

Luis is a member of the International Law Association, the International Bar Association, the American Society of International, the Cambridge Arbitration Society, Young ICSID, and ICC YAF.

Publications

He has published papers on foreign investment protection, international law and regulation, international arbitration, human rights and international treaty law.

Personal

Luis obtained his law degree from the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE), where he has also been lecturer in Public International Law for over 10 years. He also holds an LLM in international law from the University of Cambridge.
