Career

Maria José’s practice focuses on the representation of insurers, reinsurers and other insurance-related entities, including insurance and reinsurance brokers and rep offices of reinsurers. She has extensively advised and assisted insurance companies in a broad array of matters including applications to obtain business licences, M&A, corporate reorganisations, distribution agreements, transfer of portfolio and liquidation. She has also been involved in day-to-day regulatory compliance including corporate governance matters and the drafting of corporate resolutions and she is acts as of the board of directors of a couple of insurance companies. Since 2011, María José has been authorized by the National Insurance and Bonding Commission for the registration of insurance policies. Ms. Pinillos has also advised insurers and reinsurers regarding the interpretation of insurance policies on coverage opinions and dispute resolutions.

Her expertise both as inhouse and as outside counsel, allows her to combine her deep understanding of the Mexican insurance industry with a strong business-oriented perspective, providing bespoke solutions.

María José is a member of the Insurance Committee of the International Bar Association, the Mexican Insurance and Bonding Companies Association (AMEDESEF) and the Mexican Bar Association (Barra Mexicana de Abogados).
