Mark has helped Canadian and foreign businesses solve their competition law problems for nearly 25 years. Mark has steered hundreds of mergers through Canada’s merger regime to successful closings, including many of the most high-profile mergers in Canada including, most recently, Paper Excellence’s US$3 billion going-private take-over of Domtar and its prior acquisition of Catalyst Paper, Luxottica’s US$54 billion merger with Essilor, SABMiller’s US$107 billion acquisition by Anheuser Busch InBev and MeadWestvaco’s US$16 billion merger with Rock-Tenn Company. Mark’s expertise in merger clearances extends to managing complex and time-sensitive phase 2 review processes. His merger clearance practice is informed by his extensive transactional experience as a corporate M&A lawyer. In addition to merger clearances, Mark advises clients on their most challenging competition law conduct issues, such as leading the team that represented Live Nation and its affiliate Ticketmaster in the defence of alleged deceptive marketing practices under the Competition Act.
