Practice Areas
Neil is Co-Leader of McMillan’s Competition, Antitrust & Foreign Investment and International Trade groups. His competition practice focuses on Competition Act merger clearances, cartel investigations and class actions and abuse of dominance proceedings. He has extensive experience with net benefit and national security reviews under the ICA. Neil was counsel in the Godfrey case in which the Supreme Court of Canada clarified the standard for certification of competition class actions and umbrella purchaser claims. He is the Global Contributing Editor for Lexology/GTDT’s Cartel Regulation deskbook, and he won GCR’s Dealmaker of the Year award in 2016. Neil’s trade law practice includes anti-dumping and subsidy proceedings, sanctions, and foreign corrupt practices. He is particularly experienced in energy, financial services, pharmaceuticals, agri-food, natural resources, transportation, and media/technology sectors. Neil has appeared in the Ontario, BC, Québec and Federal courts as well as the Competition Tribunal and Canadian International Trade Tribunal. ABA – Antitrust Law Section’s International Comments & Policy Committee. IBA – past chair, Antitrust Section; co-chair, Mergers Working Group. CBA – Vice Chair, Competition Law & Foreign Investment Review Section. Doctorate in competition law (University of Toronto).
