Practice Areas

Max undertakes a broad range of commercial work. His practice covers litigation and international arbitration. He is often engaged in complex, high value and high-profile disputes. He has appellate experience and has appeared before the Supreme Court and the Privy Council. Recent highlights of Max’s practice include his work in large group litigation. Max is currently instructed on a number of such cases, for example the Fundão Dam Litigation, where Max acts for BHP in the 14 week trial commencing in October 2024. Other recent highlights include Max’s instructions on Virgin Enterprises Limited v Brightline Holdings LLC [2023] EWHC 2240 (Comm), a US$115m breach of contract claim (3-week trial in the Commercial Court in summer 2023); and SKAT v Solo Capital Partners, a multi-billion fraud claim in the Commercial Court (4-week trial in early 2023). Max also has considerable experience in the energy sector; and in the banking/finance sector (e.g., RBS Rights Issue Litigation, Dana Gas PJSC v Dana Gas Sukuk Limited; and his work in three appeals to the Privy Council arising out of Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.
