Patrick specialises in commercial litigation, company law and insolvency. Patrick has been involved in some of the largest civil fraud claims in recent years including the ~$4 billion Bourlakova litigation, the $2 billion LIA v Societe Generale litigation and the £1.17bn Pugachev litigation. Patrick also regularly acts on substantial shareholder disputes and restructurings with recent cases including Hipgnosis Music v Mercuriadis (a ~$200m breach of fiduciary duty claim against Beyonce’s former manager, among others), the Liberty Steel winding up petitions, Petropavlovsk plc (a board dispute relating to the $1.4bn UK listed Russian gold mining company), Garnet v VRFB (a shareholder dispute relating to a vanadium battery joint venture), Al Kuwari v Cantervale Ltd (concerning the effect of an exclusive jurisdiction clause on a $10 million statutory demand), BEA v BB2 (concerning issues of arbitrability and the consequences of the restoration of a company on the termination of a contract), the Tonstate Group litigation (a shareholder dispute concerning the owner of hotels worth in excess of £500 million) and the Arcadia (Topshop/Topman) and Regis (Supercuts) CVAs. Patrick’s cases often involve complex jurisdictional issues and applications for pre-emptive and interlocutory relief including freezing orders, Norwich Pharmacal orders and other interim injunctions. Patrick regularly appears (both led and unled) in the Chancery Division, Commercial Court and Court of Appeal. Patrick has considerable advocacy experience, including appearing unled on significant fraud trials and ex parte applications.
