Career
Ronald J. Schutz is Chair of the Robins Kaplan LLP Executive Board. He represents clients in intellectual property, commercial litigation, and affirmative recovery-related actions. He is a pioneer in the use of alternative fee agreements and risk sharing in plaintiff’s patent litigation. His approach to sharing risk in cases like Fonar v. GE, which garnered a jury verdict of $110 million, helped to shape the firm’s nationally-recognized IP and Technology Litigation Practice. He regularly represents individuals and companies against corporate giants on a risk-sharing basis, achieving justice for his clients that they might not otherwise have been able to consider. Among his other significant jury verdicts and judgments are $89 million in Grantley v. Clear Channel, $35 million in St. Clair v. Canon, $25 million in St. Clair v. Sony, $12 million in Personal Audio v. Apple, and $6 million in Megdal v. La-Z-Boy (with settlement of $13.5 million after verdict).
Mr. Schutz is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. He has recently been recognized for his work by Lawdragon, Managing Intellectual Property, LMG Life Sciences, IAM, The National Law Journal, and Super Lawyers.
