Tim represents clients in a broad range of complex commercial disputes. Recent instructions include: Crypto Open Patent Alliance v Wright ([2024] EWHC 1198 (Ch)): a six-week trial concerning the creation of Bitcoin (a “The Lawyer Top 20” case for 2024); Re Lehman Brothers Holdings: for Deutsche Bank in the latest Lehman ‘waterfall’ disputes, including DB’s successful appeal ([2021] EWCA Civ 1823) and a successful trial in a related directions application ([2023] EWHC 3056 (Ch)), with an appeal set for October 2024; Whistletree Mortgages: for TSB in ongoing claims alleging overpayment of mortgage interest (judgment expected after a preliminary issues trial in July 2024); CityFibre v GCI Network Solutions ([2024] EWHC 1994 (Comm)): a dispute over CityFibre’s national network; Lyrica litigation: for Pfizer, defending claims arising from cross-undertakings in damages (a “The Lawyer Top 20” case for 2023). Tim’s recent High Court instructions as sole counsel include: Yodel v GRI: a dispute involving a services agreement; DCAL v Monex Europe Markets: a claim against a broker over the early termination of FX swaps; Jefferies International v Fidera: defending a claim related to the write-down of AT1 bonds issued by Credit Suisse; and Sterritt v Investec Wealth & Investment: for IW&I, defending a claim concerning the inability to locate a share certificate.
Career
Prior to transferring to the Bar in 2015, Tim worked as a solicitor and as Judicial Assistant to Lord Mance at the Supreme Court.
