Practice Areas

Tristan leads BDB Pitmans’ landed estates and agriculture team. As well as having 25 years’ experience as a property solicitor, he is a farmer’s son and farmed his family farm alone and in partnership for 14 years. This gives him unparalleled practical knowledge of issues that arise in the sale, purchase and management of rural and agricultural property related matters.

In addition, Tristan is one of London’s leading advisers in the residential property market, having been nominated by Chambers and Partners for the award of Residential Property Lawyer of the Year in 2018.

Work Highlights

Acting for an entrepreneur purchasing an estate for a ten figure sum including a mansion house, two secondary houses, two dozen further cottages and some 3,000 acres of arable land and woodland. Contracts were exchanged 2 weeks after the parties shook hands on the deal.

Acting for an agriculture fund over its 10 year life in the acquisition, management and subsequent disposal of its core farmland holding, totalling some 2,500 acres including cottages.

Assisting numerous families engaged in negotiating the sale of land to house builders, wind farm operators and solar farm sites by way of sale contract, option agreement and promotion agreements.

Advising in connection with the purchase of a London penthouse flat and associated property ‘off-plan’ at a price of more than £100 million – probably the highest value private residential property transaction of 2018.
