Career
Vijey was a tax consultant with the then Arthur Andersen before he was admitted to the Malaysian Bar (in 1999). He became a partner of Raja, Darryl & Loh in 2005 and has steadily led the Tax practice group to become one of the leading tax practices in Malaysian legal firms. Vijey has vast experience in advising on all aspects of tax - income tax, custom duties, GST, sales and service tax, real property gains tax, tax incentives and stamp duty, regularly providing tax advice to high profile clients, both Malaysian and foreign, from virtually every business sector, including aerospace, automobiles, banking, financial services, healthcare, infrastructure, insurance, oil and gas, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, property development, software and technology.
In addition, he is a proficient tax litigator and regularly appears before the Special Commissioners of Income Tax, the Customs Appeal Tribunal, the High Court and the Court of Appeal on major points of tax law. For example, arising from a case, claims for capital allowance and reinvestment allowance on the machines used for trial runs are now allowed. Vijey also secured the Court of Appeal's binding decision that expenses paid by the taxpayer to its parent company in return for the grant of share options to the taxpayer’s employees are deductible.
Vijey has been consistently listed as a leading lawyer by several major legal publications, even being named as a “Litigation Star” by Benchmark Litigation.
An Associate of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (formerly known as the Malaysian Institute of Taxation), Vijey has been involved in various committees including the GST and Tax Sub-Committee of the Malaysian Bar, the Tax Committee of the American Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia Technical Committee – Indirect Taxation, and often shares his expertise as a speaker at tax seminars.
