Practice Areas

David Travers KC has a wide-ranging practice in both civil and criminal regulatory law and associated areas. His core practice areas are Environment, Health and Safety, Consumer and Food law; he also advises in transactional settings as well as on the lawful discharge of statutory powers. He also regularly represents Properly Interested Persons at Inquests. He is vastly experienced in actions involving both national regulatory bodies, and Local Authorities and acts for businesses of all sizes, directors and other individuals. He has particular experience in cases involving scientific and technical evidence.

In the Consumer sphere he acts disputes involving physical outlets and ecommerce platforms in both contentious and non-contentious matters.

His Environmental practice includes court hearings and Inquiries in topics as diverse as Net Limitation Orders, Fisheries, Contaminated land, waste permitting, transfrontier shipment of waste, water resources management planning, as well as complex statutory nuisance disputes.

In the Food sector his practice ranges from food-born illness to labelling issues, including allergens. His clients are generally household names or large wholesale providers. He has also acted in a dispute between a supplier and a major supermarket under the Groceries Code Adjudicator Act.

Most of David’s health and safety work involves fatalities (including corporate manslaughter and manslaughter by gross negligence) and complements his Inquest practice. He has clients in the construction, mining, retail, transport, and logistics sectors as well as acting for public sector bodies. In addition to prosecutions, David deals with appeals against Improvement and Prohibition Notices.
