Career
consumer, licensing and safety law, and he is well known in these areas particularly for his expertise in food law. His consumer law practice covers the full spectrum of work in this specialism including, trading standards, unfair trading, CMA investigations and the new DMCC Act. His food law expertise is comprehensive and includes, safety and hygiene, labelling, allergens, claims, advertising, judicial reviews of regulator’s decisions, food production through to retail and consumption, connected animal welfare in farming and food production, feed, breeding of farm animals and animal welfare. He is frequently involved in public law challenges to decisions by the regulators in these areas both in the First and Upper Tribunals as well as the High Court and on statutory appeals to the Secretary of State. His safety work goes beyond food law to include investigations and defending prosecutions under the Heath and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the General Product Safety Regulations, in respect of accidents and products in various industries. His licensing work focuses mainly on alcohol and entertainment and his also a known and regularly instructed advocate in large-scale statutory nuisance cases, often linked to the hospitality industry.
