Career
Benjamin is a highly sought after barrister, defending and prosecuting criminal offences of the utmost gravity and complexity, particularly cases involving substantial and multi-faceted questions of fact and law. He specialises in the representation of individuals and corporates in the pre-charge ‘investigation’ phase, as well as conducting parallel civil (POCA) proceedings including AFOs and Restraint Orders.
He is usually instructed against counsel well beyond his year of call and is often first choice in cases requiring the drafting - and delivery - of complex submissions in multi-handed cases.
Benjamin is often instructed to challenge conduct by investigating authorities either by way of Judicial Review or pursuant to section 59 of the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 and recently obtained an Order for the return of numerous mobile handsets seized by HMRC in an ongoing investigation into NUKDP cigarette importations.
Benjamin excels in the successful representation of individuals and corporates said to be involved in the most organised, complex and grave misconduct; equally adept at leading or working within a larger team and is frequently instructed as leading junior counsel in cases involving a substantial national and international dimension.
He is well known for his attention to detail, work ethic and tenacity before both first instance and appellate tribunals. The effort he puts into cases enables him to establish a rapport with clients, juries and professional tribunals. His work frequently encompasses cases which attract a media interest, involving high-profile individuals and corporates.
